The show really hammers home ideas of community, diversity, friendship, and ethics as fundamental American values, but does so while being way too cool to come off like an after-school special.īut the humor is definitely not for kids. Eventually, every major arc ends with the good, honest, hardworking people coming together and solving the problem and saving the town, even if there's always self-interested people running around in the works. ![]() Parks and Rec just might be the most hopeful, optimistic, and wholesomely patriotic show on television. So it's just nihilism all around, right? Complete opposite. But much like her (far more cynical) NBC counterpart Liz Lemon, sometimes liberal Leslie reaches the end of an episode to find that she herself has become the bad guy. Expect it to go as most NBC shows go- no point of view is safe from ridicule, but there are a lot more sympathetic liberal characters and a lot more conservative villains and buffoons. ![]() The main protagonist is a small-town Democrat, her boss is a Libertarian, and there are real-life politicians who make cameos from both sides of the (pre-2016) isle. Basically the show treats small-town government politics as a microcosm for American government in general. The show follows a group of city employees in a fictional small town in southern Indiana.
